Tenninkyo Area(Spring / Summer / Autumn)

At Tenninkyo, which is located approximately 30 minutes by car from Asahidake Onsen, you can view a valley landscape characterized by “columnar joints”, which are sheer cliffs produced by volcanic activity, along the Chubetsu River. Within this landscape is Namidakabe Wall, where the flow of clear water down a rock wall looks like tears, as well as Shichifukuiwa Rocks, a row of seven enormous columnar joints. In summer, you can see fresh verdure; in autumn, vivid foliage. The trek to Takimidai, from where Mt. Asahidake can be seen together with Hagoromo-no-Taki – which was selected as one of “Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls” and boasts the largest drop of any water fall in Hokkaido (270 m) – is popular, as is the pedestrian trail to Hagoromo-no-Taki Falls, from where you can see the waterfalls up close. After enjoying your trek or walk, why not rest at Tenninkyo Onsen? Along the way to Tenninkyo, there is also the Daisetsu Asahidake Source Water Park, where you can taste natural water that has been selected as one of the “100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters of the Heisei Period”.
