Cross-country Ski and Snowshoe Courses

The cross-country ski courses, totaling approximately 7.5 km in length, are some of the best courses in Japan, and are frequented by athletes aspiring to compete in the Olympics. The three courses are fully equipped with nighttime lighting, and can be used for a period of 7 months, from November to May. The exhilarating feeling of gliding through the changing scenery, such as a woody corridors of akaezomatsu (sakhalin spruce) and past Wasabi-numa Pond and Kamo-numa Pond, which do not freeze, is exceptional. Snowshoe walking, which requires less physical exertion, is also popular. Cross-country skis and snowshoes are available for rent at the Visitor Center.
