Preparing for your hike on the volcanic mountains

Mt. Asahidake and Mt. Tokachidake are active volcanoes. The volcano may unexpectedly erupt. In addition to making preparations to protect yourself such as by gathering information related to volcanic activity beforehand and checking means of communication, including submitting hiking plan, keep the following points in mind while hiking.
Always be aware of conditions in the area around craters, and if you discover an abnormal phenomenon such as of a fumarole, evacuate to a safe place or descend the mountain, and inform the local municipality, police or meteorological observatory.
Volcanic gas is heavier than air, and may accumulate in depressions and valleys. Do not enter in the area around craters.
While hiking, turn on the power of the mobile phone as much as possible, and be alert of early warning e-mails and information communicated through emergency disaster systems.
